UNI Regional Business Center to offer Microsoft Access training beginning Jan. 22

CEDSR FALLS, Iowa -- A comprehensive introduction to Microsoft Access, a popular database program, will be offered by the University of Northern Iowa Regional Business Center (RBC) and Ketels Contract Training, beginning in January 2002.

During this four-session training series, instructor Chris Case will familiarize participants with the applications of this program, including set-up; designing queries, forms, and reports; creating macros; and exploring ways to make databases more efficient. Training will be hands-on in the computer lab at the UNI Regional Business Center, 212 E. 4th St., in downtown Waterloo. Classes will meet from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday mornings, Jan. 22 through Feb. 12. Class size is limited to 14 participants.

'Fast Trac' training for new and existing entrepreneurs to be offered by UNI

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The UNI Regional Business Center (RBC) and the Iowa Entrepreneurial Consortium will host Fast Trac, a national training program for new and existing entrepreneurs, beginning Jan. 12, 2002.

This eight-week comprehensive class will allow participants to explore their business concept and growth strategies, gain insight into analyzing financial statements, conduct market research, learn about financing programs and create a business plan. Each session will include classroom instruction, a discussion with an expert from the local business community, and an opportunity to network with other Cedar Valley entrepreneurs.

Classes will be held on Saturday mornings, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Jan. 12 through March 2, at the UNI Regional Business Center, 212 E. 4th St., in downtown Waterloo. The fee for this comprehensive class is $199 for existing businesses and $125 for start-up businesses. Scholarships are available.

UNI announces 2001-2002 Lantz Scholarship recipients

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- A __(Hometown)__ area student, ___(Name)___ is one of 11 recipients of the 2001-2002 C.W. Lantz scholarships from the University of Northern Iowa College of Natural Sciences, through the UNI Foundation.

_ (Name) _ is the son/daughter of _(parents' name/s) _. Each recipient received $1,245 for the 2001-2002 academic year.

The C.W. Lantz Undergraduate Scholarship is funded through the will of C.W. Lantz, a former science department head, to assist and encourage senior students in the fields of biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, science, and science education. All scholarship applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and have completed a minimum of 48 credit hours, at least 32 of them being from UNI, at the time of application.

Lantz came to UNI, then Iowa State Teachers College, in 1921, and became head of the former Science Department in 1947. He retired in 1957, but continued to teach on a part-time basis until 1967. Lantz Auditorium in McCollum Science Hall is named for him.
