CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – At approximately 9 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 29, officers from the University of Northern Iowa Department of Public Safety and Cedar Falls Police responded to a report of an assault in the wrestling practice room of UNI's West Gym. According to UNI Public Safety, UNI junior education major and cheerleader, Joel W. Shugart, had been attacked by four men. One of the suspects has been identified as a UNI student. Shugart and other cheerleading squad members were practicing in the wrestling room at the time of the incident.
Shugart was treated for minor injuries at Sartori Memorial Hospital and released. The incident is under investigation.
