Carignan named interim director of UNI's Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Steven Carignan, operations director at the University of Northern Iowa's Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC), has been named the facility's interim director. The appointment follows the resignation of GBPAC Executive Director Bruce Marquis. Marquis' resignation becomes effective Jan. 1, 2001. Marquis is leaving to pursue other opportunities.

Marquis was the GBPAC's first employee and had been at the university for three years. During that time, he contributed to the facility's design, construction and furnishing; hired the center's staff; developed its management systems; oversaw the center's gala opening; and programmed its inaugural season, which kicked off this fall. Marquis also instituted the center's advisory board and Seat Sponsorship campaign.

Prior to joining the GBPAC, Marquis served as the executive director of the Lied Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Carignan joined the GBPAC staff in February and is responsible for the center's operations and financial systems. Prior to UNI, he was the director of outreach and development for the Maine Center for the Arts at the University of Maine. He has more than 14 years of experience in the field, having also held the positions of technical director and facilities manager for other organizations.

According to James Lubker, dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, a national search for a new executive director will begin as soon as possible.
