UNI Army ROTC ranks fourth in nation
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) was recently ranked fourth of 270 ROTC programs. The ranking is done by Headquarters, U.S. Army Cadet Command using criteria that evaluates recruiting and retention percentages, number commissioned as second lieutenants upon graduation, and overall cadet academic and military training performance.
Lt. Col. Michael DePuglio, head of UNI's Department of Military Science, attributes this success to a strong base of support by faculty and administration at UNI and a superb working relationship with the Iowa Army National Guard and Army Reserve. He noted UNI ROTC has steadily improved over the past three years, ranking 212th in 1998 and 47th in 1999.
