UNI Individual Events Speech Team places fourth at MAFL tournament
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Individual Events Speech Team recently placed fourth in the Mid-American Forensic League (MAFL) Tournament at Ripon College in Ripon, Wis.
Senior Nikki Vap, English teaching major from Manchester, took first place in both program oral interpretation and dramatic interpretation.
Junior Amy Larsen, political science major from Ankeny, placed second in impromptu speaking, third in program oral interpretation, fourth in persuasive speaking, and fifth in informative speaking.
Other UNI team members attending included Teresa Kulow, junior from Mediapolis; Laura Jontz, sophomore from Bagley; Danielle Dick, sophomore from Dayton; and Matt Musgrave, freshman from Webster City.

UNI family services organization elects new officers
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Family Services Organization (NIFSO), a group for family services majors, has elected officers for 2001-2002.
Officers are Lindsey Alexander of Norwalk, president; Darcy Easley of Davenport, vice president; Hilary Craig of Davenport, secretary; Kileann Junker of Allison, treasurer; Katie Brinkman of Des Moines, social chair; Shaun Ernst of Waterloo, co-historian; and Shara Rice of Rockwell; co-historian.
NIFSO is an on-campus organization that conducts service projects in the community. Members promote education about family life and diversity.
NIFSO activities include hosting clothing and food drives for disadvantaged families, developing adopt-a-family programs during the holidays, and volunteering at local elementary schools and long-term care facilities.

UNI to offer Web site development series Nov. 1, 8 & 15
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- University of Northern Iowa Information Technology Services and the UNI Regional Business Center are offering a Web site development series for the small business community. The series is three sessions, Nov. 1 and 8, from 9 a.m. to noon, and Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Session one will teach participants the steps necessary to create a site. Session two will cover the basics of HTML. Session three will walk attendees through Microsoft Front Page and allow them time to create individual Web sites. Participants will leave with a finished product on CD-ROM, according to Katie MacDonald, UNI Regional Business Center program manager. The cost for the three sessions is $300.
