Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to speak at UNI (NOTE CHANGES)

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, whose appointment to office in 1996 made her the highest ranking woman in the U.S. government, will speak on the UNI campus Wednesday, Oct. 24.

Her schedule is as follows:

4:15 p.m. News conference, Room 30, Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC)

7:30 p.m. Public address, Great Hall, GBPAC

UNI Global Health Corps observes United Nations Day

UNI's Global Health Corps will be in Des Moines, offering information and interactive games via its Wellness on Wheels RV, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tues., Oct. 23, in the state capitol complex. The event is in conjunction with a youth symposium to celebrate United Nations Day. At least 600 Iowa youths are expected to attend. Subjects will include refugees, water safety and infectious diseases, and strategies for improving health of refuges and the poor.

The observance continues at 9:30 a.m., Wed., Oct. 24, with addresses by state dignitaries.

UNI film series explores anti-war movement of the 1960s

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa will present "Disobeying Orders: GI Resistance to the Vietnam War," at noon, Wed., Oct. 24, in the University Room North in the Maucker Union. This film is the second in the Reel to Real film series.

The documentary focuses on the anti-war movement within the armed forces during the Vietnam War in the 1960s. Following the film, a discussion will be led by David Towle, director of the UNI Counseling Center.

The Reel to Real film series presents short films that inspire reflection, discussion, challenge and criticism. It continues Nov. 14 with "When the Fire Dims."
