UNI Gallery of Art to Present 'A Question of Faith' Oct. 1-26
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Gallery of Art will present "A Question of Faith," an all-media, national, juried exhibition of new work, from Monday, Oct. 1 through Oct. 26. This exhibition is a collaborative effort between UNI's Gallery of Art, Department of Art, College of Education, and the journal "Religion and Education," which is headquartered at UNI.
"The principle mission of 'A Question of Faith' is to present the enormous impact of religion and spirituality on all aspects of life, including the making of art," said Darrell Taylor, acting director of the UNI Gallery of Art. "As such, this exhibition explores a multitude of viewpoints as reflected in a great variety of art practices."
On display will be works from all over the United States, ranging from photography, printmaking, painting and sculpture to collage, ceramics, installation and digital media.
The exhibition juror, distinguished writer and critic, Eleanor Heartney, a contributing editor to "Art in America," will present a lecture at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, in room 111 of UNI's Kamerick Art Building. An opening reception will follow, from 7 to 8 p.m.
The exhibition, opening lecture and reception are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday; and, noon to

Family Fest Dance Concert Sunday, Sept. 30
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The annual Family Fest Dance Concert will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, in the Great Hall of Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on the University of Northern Iowa campus. It is free and open to the public.
The UNI International Dance Theatre and Orchesis Dance Company will perform during the 75-minute event, featuring ballet, jazz and modern dances, as well as dances from other countries.
Opening with German and Austrian dances, the UNI International Dance Theatre will perform to live music from the UNI Horn Choir. Thomas Tritle, UNI professor of horn, will direct the choir in authentic Austrian melodies.
Both companies also will present reprises from last year's concerts-- the Orchesis 75th Anniversary Gala Concert and the International Dance Theatre's Spring Concert.
The closing performance will be a "high-energy piece" choreographed by Ranae Keane-Bamsey, UNI faculty advisor for Orchesis and an instructor in physical education.
Members from both companies are UNI students, community members, and UNI faculty.
No tickets are necessary for this performance, and no seats will be reserved. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. Tickets for the spring concerts will be available for sale at the performance.
