Diversity Week at UNI, Sept. 10-15

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa's
annual Diversity Week will be Mon., Sept.10 through Sat., Sept.15. The event
will celebrate the social issues, customs and entertainment of different cultures.
Daily events throughout Diversity Week are:
- Mon., Sept. 10, cultural festival. A variety of ethnic
foods and information will be offered as well as the music of "Voices of
Africa." Maucker Union Plaza, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
- Mon., Sept. 10, "Voices of Africa" all-women, a cappella
and West African percussion ensemble, Maucker Union Expansion, 7:30 p.m.
- Tue., Sept. 11, Tony Brown, host of the PBS series,
"Tony Brown's Journal" will speak on economic empowerment and the promotion
of positive values, 7:30 p.m., Maucker Union Expansion.
- Wed., Sept.12, a student panel of international students
will discuss the challenges of being an international student at UNI. Maucker
Union Hemisphere Lounge, 3:30 p.m.
- Wed., Sept. 12, Postville (Iowa) diversity committee
will discuss "Facing the Challenges of Diversity," 7 p.m., Maucker Union
Expansion A.
- Thu., Sept.13, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender
Association (LBGTA) panel will discuss issues affecting gay and lesbian
students, Maucker Union Hemisphere Lounge, 3:30 p.m.
- Thu., Sept. 13, video presentation and discussion.
Morris Dees, chief trial counsel and co-founder of the Southern Poverty
Law Center hosts " A place at the Table," Maucker Union State College Room
1-3 p.m.
- Thu., Sept. 13, the Student Life Team celebrates diversity
with a night of cultural experiences, Maucker Union 7-11 p.m.
- Sat Sept. 15, dance sponsored by the Black Greek Community,
10 p.m.-2 a.m., Maucker Union Expansion A and B.
