Morris Dees, civil rights champion, available for interviews

Morris Dees, co-founder of the famed Southern Poverty Law Center, will be the keynote speaker for the University of Northern Iowa's convocation, Wed., Aug. 29, at 3:30 p.m. He will be available for interviews earlier in the day. Those interested in talking with him should contact Vicki Grimes, University Marketing and Public Relations, (319) 273-2761, to set up an appointment.

Members of the media are welcome to attend the convocation in the UNI-Dome. Enter through doors on the south deck.

Dees will be discussing, "Responding to Hate: Voices of Hope and Tolerance." The Southern Poverty Law Center is a non-profit group that specializes in lawsuits involving civil rights violations and racially motivated crimes. For more information, visit http://www.splcenter.org

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Office of Admissions has made several staff changes.

Jon Buse has been appointed assistant director of admissions for orientation and campus visitation. Kristi Marchesani has been appointed assistant director of admissions/international. Connie Hansen has been appointed campus visit coordinator.

Buse, will direct all university orientation sessions and a comprehensive campus visit program. He also will provide leadership for new initiatives developed and designed for first-year students.

Marchesani is responsible for the recruitment and retention of international students. She will supervise international services providing immigration support, counseling, advising and programming for international students.

Hansen, will coordinate the comprehensive campus visit program including preview days, individual and group visits. In addition she will continue her role as the advisor to the Student Alumni Ambassadors (SAA).
