CEDAR FALLSDan Murphy, M.D., will discuss the humanitarian crisis in East Timor Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. His presentation will take place in the Maucker Union Hemisphere Lounge, on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
In August 1999, the Cedar Falls physician was volunteering in East Timor, where violence and looting erupted after voters there supported independence from Indonesia. During the unrest, approximately three-quarters of the population was displaced and thousands remain unaccounted for. Murphy is still volunteering his medical expertise in that region.
The event is sponsored by UNI Amnesty International and the UNI Global Health Corps.
