CEDAR FALLS, Iowa To help accommodate an ever-increasing demand for student, staff faculty and visitor parking, the University of Northern Iowa has updated its policy regarding visitor parking. Changes will go into effect with the start of the fall semester, Monday, Aug. 21.
In the past guests could pick up a visitor tag and park in any A, B or C lot on campus, said David Zarifis, associate director of UNI's Department of Public Safety. This put a real strain on space for permit holders. While we highly encourage visitors, we also need do our best to provide parking for our permit holders students, faculty and staff.
With this in mind, we've now designated a lot specifically for visitors. This will help relieve the pressure on parking across campus and give visitors a convenient, centrally located place to park.
The new visitor lot is located adjacent to the north side of the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC). Prior to parking, campus guests should pick up a one-day visitor tag at the Visitor Information Center, located at the campus main entrance on University Ave. Visitors also have the option of parking in any metered spot on campus. Visitor tags are not required for metered parking.
In the near future, a central parking meter will be added to the visitor lot and guests will be required to pay for parking, said Zarifis. We're not sure when that change will take place, but it will be sometime this academic year.
For more information, call the UNI Department of Public Safety at 3-2710.
