CEDAR FALLS, Iowa Julian M. Earls, deputy director for operations at the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field, in Cleveland, Ohio, will deliver the inaugural address at the UNI Ronald McNair Scholars Program, at 6 p.m., Friday, July 14, in Maucker Union, Expansion A. This is the culminating event of the program's inaugural session.
Earls has been a Distinguished Honors Visiting Professor at numerous universities throughout the United States; has 21 publications, both technical and educational; and has received medals for exceptional achievement and outstanding leadership from NASA. He is also a co-founder of an organization whose members make contributions toward raising a million dollars for scholarships to black students who attend historically black colleges and universities.
Other accomplishments includes serving on a panel for President Clinton's Initiative on Race, American Association for the Advancement of Science 150th Anniversary meeting and was inducted into the inaugural class of the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame.
The Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program is a national federally-funded program that is designed to provide preparation of undergraduate students from groups traditionally underrepresented in graduate education. The program is named for Ronald McNair, one of the seven astronauts who died onboard the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986.
