UNI makes Kaplan/Newsweek list of "best value" colleges and universities
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- For the second consecutive year, the Kaplan/Newsweek Annual National High School Guidance Counselor Survey has recognized the University of Northern Iowa as one of the nation's top colleges and universities in the category of "Schools that offer the best value (quality of education vs. cost) for your tuition dollar."
UNI was one of 75 public and private colleges and universities making the list, published this month in the Kaplan/Newsweek College Catalog 2002. The results come from a random survey of high school guidance counselors. This is the third year the Kaplan/Newsweek survey has been conducted.
The University of Northern Iowa is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. Founded in 1876 as the Iowa State Normal School, it became the Iowa State Teachers College in 1909, the State College of Iowa in1961, and the University of Northern Iowa in 1967. UNI's mission to put "Students First" has led to development of outstanding programs in teacher education, business, natural sciences, social and behavioral sciences, humanities and fine arts. Consistently ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the best universities in the Midwest, UNI is home to nearly 14,000 students.
