CEDAR FALLS, Iowa The University of Northern Iowa Elderhostel workshops will be held Sunday, June 18 to Friday, June 23 at the Cedar Falls Holiday Inn.
Mary Bozik, UNI professor of communication studies, will present Improving Your Listening Skills for Fun and Profit. Bozik's presentation will explore the nature of listening and the role it plays in our lives as well as developing strategies for becoming an effective listener.
Randy Hogancamp, UNI assistant professor of music, will present Rhythm-Based World Percussion for the Enhancement of Community and Personal Health. Hogancamp will discuss music from other cultures, demonstrate how to work within a community group and explain how to gain access to strategies for maintaining personal well-being.
Edward Amend, UNI professor emeritus of philosophy and religion, will discuss The Bible's Earliest Storytellers. The presentation will focus on two 10th Century traditions about sex, family, conflict and continuity.
Check-in will be from 3-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, in the Holiday Inn lobby. Other activities planned include a tour of the Cedar Valley Arboretum and Botanic Gardens, Monday, June 19, 3:30-5 p.m.; Body Well Exercise by Harriet Jessen, Tuesday, June 20 and Thursday, June 22, 3:30-4:15 p.m.; a tour of the Victorian Home and Carriage House Museum at 6:30 p.m.; and a band concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 20; and a walking tour of the UNI campus, Wednesday, June 21, 6:15-7-15 p.m.
Elderhostel is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the educational needs of people over age 55. The program began in 1975 as a summer-only program in New England and has expanded to offer more than 10,000 programs year-round worldwide to more than a quarter of a million people. Another session of Elderhostel workshops will be held Sunday, July 9 to Friday, July 14.
