UNI Gallery of Art to present works by Nina Ward

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Gallery of Art will present, "Twenty-five Years in Iowa: Drawings and Sculpture by Nina Ward," June 11-Aug. 3.

The exhibition will include a large number of sketchbook drawings of animals by local artist Nina Ward, which have provided inspiration for numerous sculptures and prints.

According to Rachel Flint, UNI Gallery of Art acting director, the sketches are studies from life, often with a number of sketches on one page, following an animal as it moves. Some of the earliest sculpture exhibited will be a group of marble cats carved when Ward lived in the Philippines.

Ward taught at UNI as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Art for nearly 10 years, and has lived in the Cedar Valley for nearly 25 years.

She will present a public lecture, "Putting it All Together," at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, in the Art Auditorium of the Kamerick Art Building. A reception will immediately follow.

The exhibition and lecture are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; Saturday and Sunday noon to 4:30 p.m. The Gallery is located at the corner of Hudson Road and West 27th street in Cedar Falls on the main floor of the Kamerick Art Building. For more information, call (319) 273-3095 or visit www.uni.edu/artdept/gallery.
