UNI chapter of Sigma Gamma Epsilon initiates three new members

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa's chapter of Sigma Gamma Epsilon, the national honor society in the earth sciences, initiated three new members this spring.

Amber Lowe, an earth science major from Bancroft; Charlotte Campagna, earth science education major from Mount Vernon; and Andrew Blake, geology major from Estherville, were initiated in the society's annual spring induction ceremony.

James Walters, UNI professor and head of the Department of Earth Science, and Siobahn Morgan, associate professor of astronomy in that department, are the faculty advisors for UNI's chapter of Sigma Gamma Epsilon. The UNI chapter was founded in 1974, and initiates an average of 12 members each year, with most occurring in the fall ceremony.

The society, established in 1915, promotes the scientific, scholastic and professional advancement of its members. Any student completing at least 12 semester hours of earth science courses while maintaining at least a 3.0 G.P.A. in those courses, and at least a 2.67 G.P.A. in all college courses, is eligible to apply for membership.

UNI Accounting Department awards scholarships, Accounting Club elects officers

CEDAR FALLS -- The University of Northern Iowa Department of Accounting has named recipients of department scholarships, and the UNI Accounting Club has elected officers for the 2001/2002 academic year.

The Accounting Club has elected the following officers: Chris Blaylock, president, senior accounting major from Hedrick; Adam Vogt , vice president, senior accounting major from Manchester; Jason Roos ,treasurer, senior accounting major from Centerville, and Joshua Barnes ,newsletter editor, senior accounting major from Cedar Falls. Lee Nicholas, assistant professor of accounting, is the accounting club advisor.

The Department of Accounting has awarded 34 scholarships, totaling more than $71,000, to graduate and undergraduate students for the 2001-2002 academic year.

UNI Psi Chi, Psychology Club officers elected

CEDAR FALLS -- The University of Northern Iowa chapter of Psi Chi, the honorary psychology organization, and the UNI Psychology Club, the local student club, have elected joint officers for the upcoming year.

Rusty Meyer, a junior psychology major from Oelwein, was elected president; Stephanie Yoder, a sophomore psychology and family services major from Kalona, was elected vice president. Beth Jackson, a junior psychology major from Bartlett, Ill, was named secretary; and Val Anderson, a junior psychology major from Sioux City, was elected treasurer.

Faculty advisors for the clubs are Jack Yates, professor of psychology and Linda Walsh, associate professor of psychology.
