Coggon twins named recipients of first Michael D. Krob Memorial Scholarships

CEDAR FALLS -- Twin sisters who graduated Sunday, May 20, from North-Linn High School were named the first recipients of the Michael D. Krob Memorial Scholarships to attend the University of Northern Iowa.

The $1,500 scholarships, named in honor of 1991 North-Linn and 1995 UNI graduate Michael Krob, were awarded to Kaylene Reilly and Kerry Reilly, daughters of Donald and Mona Reilly, of rural Coggon. Both young women excelled academically and were heavily involved in school and community activities, demonstrating leadership abilities, requirements for the scholarship.

Kaylene Reilly plans to study graphic design at UNI and hopes to own her own advertising business. Kerry Reilly will be majoring in business administration at UNI, and then plans to pursue a degree in culinary arts, working toward a goal of opening her own restaurant

This year would have been the 10th anniversary of Michael Krob's graduation from North-Linn, where he was involved in school activities and president of his senior class. He received a degree in business management from UNI in 1995, but lost his life to a farm accident in April of 1999.

His parents, Penny and Mike Krob of Walker, said education was always an important part of their son's life and they decided to establish the $50,000 endowed scholarship fund with the UNI Foundation and the College of Business Administration in his name. Scholarships will be awarded annually to two North-Linn seniors accepted by UNI and planning to study in the College of Business Administration.
