UNI Information Technology Services selected as only WebCT Institute in Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Educational Technology division of the University of Northern Iowa's Information Technology Services recently was selected by Web Course Tools (WebCT) as the

e-learning company's only WebCT Institute in Iowa.

WebCT, the leader in the e-learning marketplace, announced its Institute program in January. Through the program, leading colleges and universities provide training and support to other educational institutions that use WebCT products.

Through WebCT software, elementary, high school and college teachers can provide complete classes or individual assignments via the World Wide Web (WWW). UNI will serve as a campus-based regional outreach center to meet the growing demand for faculty training on the use of WebCT products.

“Faculty and staff from colleges and universities throughout the world are being challenged to utilize the power of the Internet to enhance instruction and learning,” said Marilyn Drury, director of Education Technology, in UNI's Information Technology Services.

“WebCT Institutes must have a proven track record of hosting WebCT courses; providing faculty development and support; conducting research to advance Web-enhanced and Web-based instruction; and have a desire to offer their services to surrounding communities,” said Murray Goldberg, founder and president of WebCT Canada.

UNI will offer WebCT classes as part of its Courseware Camps program this summer. To register, call the UNI Conference and Visitors Center at (319) 273-6899, or visit the Courseware Camps Web site at http://fp.uni.edu/cwc. WebCT classes also will be offered this fall. For more information, contact Drury at (319) 273-2309.
