CEDAR FALLS, Iowa Three graphic design students from the University of Northern Iowa received awards at the Art Directors Association of Iowa (ADAI) Design Exhibition in Des Moines.
Graphic design graduate student Jessica Sumer Walters, Cedar Falls, was awarded a silver medal (best of category) for her piece entitled Winter. Chawne Paige, Lee's Summit, Mo., and Patricia Smith, Scarsville, were both awarded Citations of Excellence for their works, Lullaby and Piet Zwart, respectively.
The ADAI Design Exhibition is an annual competition, which is open to design students and professionals in Iowa. The event is judged anonymously by a three-person team of prominent out-of-state graphic designers.

CEDAR FALLS, IowaThe recipients of the 2000 Julia Sparrow Scholarship were recently announced by the Black Hawk Council of the International Reading Association, the Iowa Reading Association and the reading/language arts faculty members in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Northern Iowa. The recipients were Kristen Anne Heindel, Columbus Junction; Jill M. Miller, Waukee; and Sarah Kristine Nielsen, Rowan.
Heindel is an elementary education major with a minor in reading education.
Miller is an elementary education major with a double minor in English/language arts and reading education. She is also a member of the Alpha Upsilon Alpha Honor Society through the Iowa Reading Association.
Nielsen is majoring in elementary education with a minor in reading education.
