UNI Textile and Apparel Association's 10th annual fashion show to be Saturday, April 13
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The UNI Textile and Apparel Association will hold its 10th annual fashion show at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in Lang Hall Auditorium on the University of Northern Iowa campus. It is free and open to the public.
The theme for this year's show is "Soundesign." It will focus on incorporating sounds and music with original creations, according to Kate Lilienthal of Durant, promotions and public relations chair. She said the show is planned, managed and produced by textile and apparel majors at UNI, including those in a fashion promotion class taught by Sharon Mord, UNI assistant professor of textile and apparel.
The show features clothing and "wearable art," designed and created by students for class projects or independently. Lilienthal said nearly 75 students are involved with the show in some capacity, and more than 30 students designed pieces to be showcased. Guest juror Jennifer Hanlon, now with Minnesota Public Radio, who organized the first Fashion Expo, selected the final garments for inclusion in this year's show. Her selections were based on design and construction of the items.
Show participants include __(Name/s)__ from __(Hometown)__.
The fashion show is sponsored in part with funds from Northern Iowa Student Government and outside donations. This event is part of UNI's "Arts in April" celebration. For the full calendar of Arts in April events, see the UNI Web site at www.uni.edu.
