UNI student dies following rescue from pool; name released
Cedar Falls, Iowa At approximately 6 p.m., Friday, March 24, pool
attendants retrieved a male UNI student from the lap pool in the universityís
Wellness/Recreation Center. The student, 20-year-old Michael Ross Shelton,
of Blue Grass, Iowa, had been swimming laps under the supervision of pool
staff.
Upon observing Shelton was no longer moving, attendants pulled him
from the pool and administered CPR until relieved by EMS personnel from
Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls.
Shelton was transported to Sartori where he was pronounced dead at approximately 7 p.m.
A junior, Shelton was a natural sciences major. The incident is under investigation.
