Pioneer Hi-Bred establishes new professorship at UNI

Pioneer Hi-Bred International will announce the establishment of the $250,000 Professorship of Innovation at UNI during a ceremony at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 30, at the UNI's Ag-Based Industrial Lubricants (ABIL) research program facility, 400 Technology Place, Waverly. Lou Honory, director of the ABIL program and professor at UNI, will be the first individual named to the five-year appointment. Honory noted the professorship will benefit UNI students through hands-on experience in developing innovative concepts and products, and that Iowa businesses will benefit through individual assistance from Honory and attendance at planned conferences and seminars.

Hearing-impaired instructor brings new perspective to faculty

Jessica Olsen, a recent graduate now on UNI faculty, is now the only hearing-impaired member of the UNI community. She completed her studies at UNI with the help of an interpreter, and is now developing the university's American Sign Language program. She also teaches a course in this subject.

ROTC helicopter touch-down

On Friday, April 6, UNI's ROTC cadets will land three UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters on the soccer fields west of the UNI-Dome. The Black Hawks will transport cadets to Ft. McCoy, Wis., for an exercise. According to Lt. Col. Michael De Puglio, who heads the ROTC program on campus, cadets will plan and rehearse the operation at UNI and execute it at Ft. McCoy.
