CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Working for Respect will be the topic of discussion at the monthly meeting of the Difficult Dialogues series at the University of Northern Iowa, from noon to 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 24. The discussion will take place at the Center for Multicultural Education.
Que Lan, UNI associate professor of biology, will speak on her experiences as a woman in the academic world of science, and as a professional in entomology. Reflecting on her experience, Lan said, The limit [for women] is not the sky, but the acceptance. The session is free and open to the public. Those attending are welcome to bring their lunch.
Difficult Dialogues grew out of concern about racism getting in the way of women working together towards social justice. The series helps to provide an opportunity to discuss racist barriers to women's alliance building on community concerns.
UNI's Women's Studies program, Multicultural Activities and Programs, and the Center for Multicultural Education, are sponsoring the event.
