UNI Inter-American Studies Program film series covers Canadian conflict
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- "Kanehsatake," a Canadian film about the 1990 standoff between the Mohawk Indians of a village by that name and the Federal Canadian Army, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in Room 108 of the Communication Arts Center at the University of Northern Iowa. Free and open to the public, the film is the next offering in the UNI Inter-American Studies Program Film Series.
The series is sponsored by the colleges of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Humanities and Fine Arts, along with a number of other contributors. This year's theme explores terrorism, peace and human rights in the Americas.
The final offerings in this year's series will be a Guatemalan film, "Approach of Dawn" and a Brazilian film, "This Land Is Our Land," both on April 4.

'Legal and Ethical Issues in Stem Cell Research and Cloning' topic for UNI conference
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- An in-depth look at the ethical, philosophical and legal dilemmas of stem cell research and cloning will be the topic for a conference and lecture Tuesday, March 26, at the University of Northern Iowa.
"Under the Microscope: Legal and Ethical Issues in Stem Cell Research and Cloning" will be in the Maucker Union Expansion from 9:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It is open to the public free of charge. Keynote speaker, at 9:30 a.m., will be David Orentlicher, co-director of the Center for Law and Health at the Indiana University School of Law.
Orentlicher has served as director of the Division of Medical Ethics at the American Medical Association and on the founding board of the American Association of Bioethics. He is the author and co-author of more than 80 articles and the book, "Health Law and Ethics."
The conference is sponsored by the UNI Graduate Program in Public Policy and the UNI Departments of Political Science, Biology, and Philosophy and Religion, with assistance from the Non-Credit Programs Office of the Continuing Education Division.
