CEDAR FALLS, IowaDollars for Scholars scholarship applications for 15 $750 scholarships are now available to this year's graduating seniors from Waterloo's East High School, West High School, or Expo Alternative High school.
Selection of scholarship winners is based on academic merit, community and civic involvement, and financial need. The scholarships are funded through donations to Waterloo Community Dollars for Scholars, established in 1993.
Applications for the scholarship are available in the counseling offices at each of the three high schools, and at the UNI Center for Urban Education (UNI-CUE), 715 E. 4th St., Waterloo. Completed applications must be received or postmarked by March 31, 2000. Applications should be sent to: Waterloo Community Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 23, Waterloo, IA, 50704.

CEDAR FALLS, IowaKathryn Morris and Priscila Palomino De Piper, both University of Northern Iowa graduate students, have been awarded the 1999-2000 Stanley Butler Reeves Scholarship. This annual scholarship is awarded to full time students enrolled in a reading and language arts graduate program that have demonstrated exceptional performance in course work and educational activities.
Morris is currently in the reading education master of arts program and earned a bachelor of arts degree from UNI in 1998. Currently, she serves as a graduate assistant in the UNI Regent's Center for Early Developmental Education. Additionally, she has accepted an invitation to serve on a faculty search committee in the UNI Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
Palomino De Piper is currently in the master of arts in education program in elementary reading/language arts and earned a bachelor of career arts from Dallas Baptist College, Dallas, in 1982. She has 16 years of experience in adult literacy programs in four indigenous languages of Mexico and Guatemala. This includes 12 years of concentration on the Xanica Zapotec language, and eight consecutive years of teaching courses in linguistics and literacy in English and Spanish, including three years as head of Literacy Principles courses at Madero University in Mexico.
Funds for the award have been contributed as a tribute to Stanley Butler Reeves in recognition of his many years of service to the education profession, especially reading instruction.
