UNI Inter-American Studies Program presents film series on terrorism, peace and human rights
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Inter-American Studies Program Film Series for Spring 2002 will continue on Thursday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m., in the Communication Arts Center, Room 108, presenting "A Place Called Chiapas," a Mexican film with English subtitles. It is free and open to the public.
"A Place Called Chiapas" is a dramatic documentation of the 1994 indigenous uprising and its aftermath, according to Robert Krueger, chair of the UNI Inter-American Studies Program Film Series. He said there is remarkable rebel footage of the post-NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) struggle.
Krueger said the UNI Inter-American Studies Film Series is in its sixth year, and is sponsored by the Colleges of Social and Behavioral Sciences and of Humanities and Fine Arts, along with a number of other contributors. He said a contemporary theme is always chosen for the series and this year it explores terrorism, peace and human rights in the Americas. Next in the series will be the Canadian film, "Kanehsatake," March 28.
