CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Department of Military Science has cited the academic accomplishment of 20 of its Army ROTC Cadets for the fall 2000 semester.
Cadet __(Name)__ of __(Hometown)__, was commended for achieving a fall 2000 semester GPA of 3.0 or above in all course work and a perfect 4.0 in all military science classes, according to Lt. Col. Michael DePuglio, UNI head and professor of military science.
He said UNI's Army ROTC is an academic program that provides cadets unique leadership training and management skills. Upon completion of their degree requirements at UNI, the cadets will be commissioned as second lieutenants in the Regular Army, Army National Guard or Army Reserve.
DePuglio said the cadets are part of the proud tradition of military instruction at UNI dating back to the late 19th century. They have demonstrated military and academic excellence and will be next in line to receive their officer's commission through the Army ROTC.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Some 245 students from 47 high schools participated in the Northern Iowa Vocal Arts Festival, Sunday, Feb. 25 and Monday Feb. 26 in the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center and Russell Hall at the University of Northern Iowa.
Dan Richardson from Cedar Falls, and Heidi Einsweiler from Hudson, were recipients of $1,000 scholarships. The money is contingent upon audition and acceptance into the UNI School of Music. Andrea Snitker, from Waukon, was also awarded the scholarship, but is not planning on attending UNI.
Receiving honorable mention were Sarah Brungard, from Dunkerton, Steve Shelton, from Northern University High School, Cedar Falls, and Bradley Wilson, from Dowling High School, Des Moines.
The two days of activities were highlighted by a Grand Finale Concert, featuring the UNI Concert Chorale and the Festival Choirs. The Fort Madison High School Voices, conducted by Allen Chapman, performed as the Festival Honor Choir.

Conductors for the Festival Mixed Choirs were Dyan Baker, conductor of the UNI Concert Chorale and UNI Women's Chorus, and Carol Tralau, conductor of the UNI Chamber Singers and UNI Singers. Don Rierson, UNI assistant professor of music, directed a special presentation of "La Perichole," an opera currently being presented by the UNI Lyric Theatre. Guest clinician, Timothy Stalter, director of choral activities at the University of Iowa, led two conductor sessions for high school directors.
