ROTC training available for interested college students
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The U.S. Army will offer its four-week Leader's Training Course (LTC) this summer at Fort Knox, Ky., for second-year college and university students who have no prior experience with the Reserved Officer Training Corps (ROTC) but still want to participate in ROTC.
"The LTC is a unique blend of classroom and hands-on training that allows students to master all the critical skills that they will need to enter the ROTC Advanced Course on campus," said Lt. Col. Michael DePuglio, head of the Department of Military Science at the University of Northern Iowa. UNI is home to one of the nations leading ROTC programs.
While at Fort Knox, students may compete for merit-based scholarships that provide up to $17,000 toward tuition costs. All who successfully complete the course qualify for a tax-free monthly allowance of $300 during their next year of college. During the final year of ROTC courses, the allowance becomes $350.
All expenses for attending the training are paid by the Army. Students attending the course earn a salary during the four-week session.
