Geoffrey Ewing to present 'A Tribute to the Greatest' Thursday, Feb. 28

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- "A Tribute to the Greatest," an off-Broadway show chronicling the life of professional boxer, Muhammed Ali, will be presented at 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the University of Northern Iowa's Maucker Union Expansion.

Geoffrey Ewing, will present a one-man show depicting the transformational life story and spiritual journey of Ali who, he says, "transcended the sports world to become a global legend and champion of honor, respect and dignity." A dialogue will follow the show.

Ewing's performance has garnered numerous accolades, including praise from Muhammed Ali himself, according to Mike Bobeldyk, program coordinator for Maucker Union. Ewing has performed throughout the United States and Europe on stage and television. He is the recipient of the prestigious OBIE award for off-Broadway theatre, and the AUDELCO award, recognizing excellence in Black Theatre.

The event is part of UNI's celebration of Black History Month, and is being presented in conjunction with the "Thursdaze" program. Admission is free and open to the public.

UNI Workshops of Diversity continue with 'That's my Jam' on Thursday, Feb. 28

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Workshops of Diversity continues with "That's my Jam" on Thursday, Feb. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the State College Room of the University of Northern Iowa's Maucker Union.

"That's my Jam" is a workshop designed to promote diversity by offering an opportunity for students to share the meanings found in favorite songs, according to Guy Sims, associate director at Maucker Union. Participants are encouraged to bring a song (on a compact disc or cassette).

Workshops of Diversity is part of the J.W. Maucker Leadership Series. Maucker was UNI's fifth president, serving from 1950-1970, and an advocate for students and their successes.

Workshops of Diversity will continue on Thursday, March 28 with "Collidascope," a game that aims to bridge differences by permitting the transfer of information and experiences.
