UNI ROTC program now open to students in Dubuque
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Army ROTC program has signed a partnership agreement that will allow Dubuque-area college and university students to enroll in Army ROTC and earn commission as Army officers upon graduation.
Under the agreement, which reactivates a program closed 10 years ago due to down-sizing within the U.S. Department of Defense, UNI Army ROTC instructors will run a satellite program on the campus of the University of Dubuque. This program will be open to students at the University of Dubuque, Loras College, Clarke College and North East Iowa Area Community College.
"At UNI, the Army ROTC has exceeded its recruiting and commissioning goals for three years, and is ranked No. 4 nationally," said Lt. Col. Michael DePuglio, head of UNI's Department of Military Science. "The Dubuque-area schools have seen what a great opportunity ROTC provides, and want a chance to offer that opportunity to their students."
UNI Army ROTC instructors will travel to the University of Dubuque to conduct the classes. At least twice a semester, the Dubuque-area cadets will join the UNI cadets for additional training.
Students may apply for scholarships this spring with classes beginning with the fall 2002 semester. For more information, contact UNI's Department of Military Science, (319) 273-6220.

UNI to host the world's oldest international educator recruiting fair, March 1-3
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The 26th annual University of Northern Iowa Overseas Recruiting Fair will take place March 1-3, at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center in Waterloo.
Once again this year, the UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair will host more than 115 American international schools representing over 65 countries. At least 500 educators are expected to participate in the Fair in order to interview for teaching positions in these schools.
The UNI Fair is the oldest international educator recruitment event in the world. Since its inception in 1976, nearly 16,000 teachers have used the overseas placement services at UNI.
According to Tracey Roling, assistant director/education in the UNI Career Center, "If you want to use your teaching credentials to see the world, this is the professional development opportunity of a lifetime." To participate, candidates must hold current certification as an elementary or secondary educator.
Roling said this year has presented some unique challenges in light of the Sept. 11 attacks. "I have to give a tremendous amount of credit and admiration to the 500 teachers who have moved forward with their plans to teach American children. Although the world is certainly changed from one year ago, these educators, school headmasters, and our staff have carried on with what we believe to be a very important mission: providing the very best teachers to children worldwide."
To participate in the UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair, pre-Fair registration is required. For more information, contact Roling, at (319) 273-2083 or visit the Web site at www.uni.edu/placement/overseas.
