University of Northern Iowa plans visit to Cedar Rapids Feb. 24

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa will host a reception and program for potential students in the Cedar Rapids area, Thursday, Feb. 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Collins Plaza Hotel. Through the event, students with an interest in the university can visit with UNI alumni, staff and students. Parents of students may also attend, and talk with parents of current UNI students.

“UNI believes strongly in community outreach,” says Stacey Christensen, manager of Community Relations. “This event allows us to, in effect, bring the university to the students. And that makes it infinitely more convenient for them to obtain pertinent information and talk first-hand with the students of UNI, who really know the university best.”

The reception runs from 6:30 to 7 p.m. At 7 p.m., a student panel made up of UNI students from Cedar Rapids, will discuss student life and student services at the university. On the panel are Tim Wood and Thomas O'Shea, both Kennedy High School graduates; and Sara Christensen and Patty Clark, graduates of Linn-Mar High.

The event is free and open to the public, but coordinators are requesting RSVPs to a UNI student admissions representative at 1-800-772-2037, between 5 and 8 p.m., Sunday through Thursday.
