UNI Web site offers up-to-the-minute weather info

A new Web site, developed by a UNI associate professor of meteorology, will offer current weather information for reporters, editors, teachers and others interested.

The site, at http://www.earth.uni.edu, features information that is updated daily, providing up-to-the-minute analysis of current weather patterns, records, history and trends in the state. "This is going to help everyone," explained Alan Czarnetzki. "There is increased interest in weather phenomenon as we experience one of the warmest, driest winters on record."

Czarnetzki is director of the new Science center for Teaching, Outreach and Research on Meteorology (STORM) at UNI. The $1.5 million project works to increase the understanding of weather, and allow for development of programs that will help specific groups, such as school superintendents, evaluate weather data.
