Kenneth Atkinson, Philosophy & Religion, published "Astrology and History in the Treatise of Shem: Two Astrological Pseudepigrapha and Their Relevance for Understanding the Astrological Dead Sea Scrolls." The Qumran Chronicle 14 (2006): 37-55.

Linda A. Sharp, Price Lab School, published two articles in the Central Iowa Mensa Newsletter "M-Pressions:" "The Rocky Road to Mensa: School Experiences of Mensans",  March 2006, Volume 34 Issue 3; and "Schooldaze" June 2006, Volume 34 Issue 6. Sharp is serving as editor of a series on the school experiences of gifted adults.Katherine van Wormer, Social Work, and Clemens Bartollas, Sociology, Criminology,and Anthropology, published "Women and the Criminal Justice System," 2nd ed., Boston:Allyn & Bacon. Katherine van Wormer and Laura Kaplan, Social Work, published "Results of a National Survey of Wardens in Women's Prisons: The Case for Gender Specific Treatment in Women and Therapy," 29 (1/2), 2006.

Gowri Betrabet Gulwadi, Design, Textiles, Gerontology & Family Studies, published "Seeking Restorative Experiences: Elementary School Teachers' Choices for Places That Enable Coping With Stress." in Environment and Behavior, July 2006, 38: 503-520. (See http://eab.sagepub.com/content/vol38/issue4/) She co-authored "Accommodating Culturally Meaningful Activities in Outdoor Settings for Older Adults." This article was published in the Journal of Housing for the Elderly, Volume 19, Issue ¾, 109-140 and in the book, "The Role of the Outdoors in Residential Environments for Aging" by The Haworth Press, 2006.

 

Jean Neibauer, Academic Advising and Career Services, and Susie Schwieger, Career Services, presented "Branding and Marketing a New Office: Integrating Staff and Reframing Services" at the 2006 National Association of Colleges and Employers national meeting, held in Anaheim, Calif.

Linda Sharp, College of Education, was selected by audition for the organ recital series at Washington National Cathedral and played a 75-minute program there on Sunday, Aug. 20. The recital included works by Vierne, JS Bach, Reger, George Shearing, Ned Rorem, and Messiaen.

Kenneth Atkinson, Philosophy & Religion, was one of three Americans invited to speak at a special colloquium on the writings of the first century C.E. Roman historian Flavius Josephus at the University of Hiafa, Haifa, Israel, July 2-6, 2006. The event drew over two dozen experts from 12 countries and four continents. Atkinson's presentation was titled, "The Historical Chronology of the Hasmonean Period in the War and Antiquities of Flavius Josephus: Separating Fact from Fiction."

 


 

Mary Bozik, Communication Studies, was awarded the Citation Award at the annual convention of the Iowa Communication Association Sept. 30, for service and leadership in the organization and the communication discipline. This award is the highest honor given by the organization. She was labeled an "Educator's Educator," by presenter Marilyn Shaw, former student and instructor at UNI.

Rebecca Dunham, English Language & Literature, won the 2006 T.S. Eliot Prize for her book of poetry, The Miniature Room, published by Truman State University Press.

Catherine Miller, Mathematics, received the Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching from the Iowa section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).

Carolina J. Wilson, School of Music, was awarded the Certified Professional Secretary rating from The International Association of Administrative Professionals through its Institute for Certification. The CPS rating is achieved by meeting specific education and secretarial experience requirements and by passing the CPS Examination.
