Donna Vinton, Advising and Career Services, published "An Inside Look at An Outside Candidate" in the June 2004 edition of the Career Development Quarterly. James Robinson, Philosophy & Religion, has published a chapter, "The Bodhisattva as a Divine Being in Buddhism" in Indo-Tibetan Culture, published by The Visva-Bharati Publishing Department in honor on the 50th anniversary of Visva-Bharati's Department of Indo-Tibetan Studies. Robinson's book, Hinduism, was published by the Chelsea House press. It is one volume in the six-book series, "Religions of the World." Katherine van Wormer, Social Work, has published "Exploring Child Welfare through International Innovations," a chapter in Lessons from Abroad, (T. Hokenstad & J.Midgley eds.), Washington, DC: NASW Press. Yury Lerner, Industrial Technology, has recently published two articles: "Fins vs. Chills: Solidifying an Answer," Modern Casting, #5, 2004, pp.37-41; and "Continuous Casting of Ductile Iron," Foundry Management and Technology, vol. 132, #8, 2004, pp.40-67. A third article: "Solidification Analysis of Heat Sink/Chills Effectiveness in Permanent Mold Casting of Aluminum Alloys" will be published in Foundry Management and Technology, vol. 136, #12, 2004. Donna Vinton, Advising and Career Services, presented two sessions at Career Development Across the Lifespan, a national conference of the National Career Development Association in June. Her sessions were titled "Active Learning Through the Use of Reflection Techniques in Career Exploration" and "Using Web-Authoring Software to Support a University Career Decision-Making Class." Linda A. Sharp, Department of Teaching, played a solo organ recital on Sunday, Sept. 12 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City as the opening concert of the 2004-05 season for the Sioux City Chamber Music Association. Dan Power, Management, presented a paper, "Decision Support Systems: From the Past to the Future," at the Americas Conference for Information Systems (AMCIS 2004) in New York City on Aug. 6. He spoke at a workshop on "Innovations in Teaching DSS Development," Aug. 1-5, in Jacksonville, Fla.He completed his term as chair of the Association for Information Systems Special Interest Group on Decision Support, Knowledge and Data Management Systems (SIGDSS). Dean
Kruckeberg, Communication Studies, was a respondent for "Tradition
of Excellence Theory," a panelist in the program "The 20th
Year Division Celebration," and a panelist for "New Challenges
and a Celebration of the First Twenty Years," at the annual convention
of the International Communication Association May 31, in New Orleans.

DeBerg, Philosophy & Religion,
will serve on a faculty of four senior religious studies scholars
for the Wabash Center Workshop on Teaching and Learning. This
selective workshop on pedagogy is designed for fourteen junior faculty
members in religious studies from institutions around the country. Mona
Milius, Department of Residence, was installed as president
of the National Association of College and University Food Services
on July 9. |
