Anne Myles, English Language and Literature, has published an essay, "The Power and Perils of Identification; or, There's Something about Mary (Dyer)" in a special issue on autotheoretical criticism in the electronic journal, Women Writers: An E-Zine,

Jim O'Loughlin, English Language and Literature, published an article, "The Whiteness of Bone: Russell Banks' Rule of the Bone and the Contradictory Legacy of Huckleberry Finn" in Modern Language Studies (32.1). His flash fiction story, "Testimony," was published in
Mocha Memoirs (5.16). His flash fiction story, "Another Story," was published in Pierian Springs (2.5). His poem, "So Big," appeared in The Green Tricycle (12).

Randal Hayes, ITS-Voice Services, has written an article, "Universal Service: Universal Mystery" which will appear in the fall issue of the ACUTA Journal.

Dianna Briggs, Student Field Experiences, edited and produced the book "Silo Ice Climbing, Ice Climbing in the Midwest," July 2003, Standard Publishing Co., authored by Don Briggs, School of Health Physical Education and Leisure Services. Briggs also published a photo in Outside Magazine, September 2003, p. 62.

Kenneth Atkinson, Philosophy and Religion, published a book, "Introduction to World Religions," by College Network and had a book, "I Cried to the Lord," a study of poems documenting the 63 B.C.E. Roman conquest of Jerusalem, accepted for publication by E. J. Brill of the Netherlands.

 

Randal Hayes, ITS-Voice Services, presented a "Communications Technology Legislative & Regulatory Primer" at the MiCTA Regional Conference, Sept. 29, in Bellaire, Mich. He also presented "Universal Service: Availability & Access" July 31 at the annual conference of ACUTA, in Hollywood, Fla. He participated in a "hot topics" regulatory panel with Washington legal counsel. Hayes presented a communications technology legislative/regulatory update April 29 at the ACUTA spring conference in Norfolk,Va; and at the MiCTA Annual Conference April 30 in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.   

 

Harry Brod, Philosophy and Religion, has been appointed to the Fatherhood, Marriage and Family Formation Advisory Group that will report to the Iowa State Legislature at the end of the year.

Paula J. Gilroy, Counseling Center, was appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of College Counseling.

Nick Pace, Student Field Experiences, serves on the Focus on Iowa High Schools Leadership Team. Other UNI faculty members on the team are Charles Johnson, Industrial Technology, and Nadene Davidson, Price Lab School. Pace also serves on the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Youth in Iowa Schools task force.

Richard Fehlman, Student Field Experiences
, served on a jury of three editors to review proposals for the National Telemedia Council’s search for emerging media literacy scholars.

Laura Praglin, Social Work,
recently received a 2003-04 research support grant from Radcliffe's Institute of Advanced Study, the Schlesinger Library for the History of Women, to conduct research regarding the rise of medical social work in the United States.

Jesse G. Swan, English Language & Literature, has been selected from a national applicant pool to attend a study opportunity supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities. 

B.J. Herrick, PLS instructor in the Department of Teaching, has been selected by the Iowa Council for the Social Studies as the High School Social Studies Teacher of the Year.
