spoke at the La Crosse/Winona section of the American Chemical Society
on April 9 at Winona State University in Winona, Minn. The title of
his talk was “The Integral River Basin Approach to Assess the
Impact of Multiple Contamination Sources Exemplified by the Rhine River
Basin.”

and Thomas Margaria had published “In-mold Treatment Processes

John Burtis, Communication Studies, recently had an
article “Communication Studies in the Liberal Arts Education,”
published in the 2003 Journal of Arts and Sciences in Career and
Experiential Education, volume 2, pages 2-11.
Harry Brod, Philosophy and the Honors Program, has recently
published a book along with Cooper Thompson, and Emmett Schaefer. The
book, "White Men Challenging Racism: 35 Personal Stories,"
is a collection of narratives told through interviews with the authors
that chronicle the experiences of 35 white men and their efforts to
combat racism and fight for social justice.
Jeffery Byrd, Art, has published essays ona series
of topics: performance art, composer John Cage, choreographer Merce
Cunningham, and visual artists Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg and
Harriet Hosmer. The essays were published at <http://www.glbtq.com>,
an online encyclopedia of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender culture.
Dean Kruckeberg, Communication Studies, is co-author
of the eighth edition of "This Is PR: The Realities of Public Relations,"
available in July.
Katherine
van Wormer, Social Work, published the chapter, "Prison
Privatization and Women" in A. Coyle (Ed.), Capitalist Punishment:Prison
Privatization and Human Rights,Atlanta: Clarity Press. She also
wrote the foreword to "Social Work and Human Rights, 2003,"(by
E. Reichert) Columbia University Press
Leslie Wilson, College of Business Administration,
with co-authors Rhonda Lummus (ISU) and Robert Vokurka (TX A&M Corpus
Christi) have had "The Impact of Marketing Initiatives on the Supply
Chain" accepted for publication as a research note in Supply
Chain Management: An International Journal.
David Saiia, Management, along with
co-authors Archie Carroll and Ann Buckholtz, will have an article, "Philanthropy
as Strategy: When Corporate Charity 'Begins at Home'" in Business
and Society.

Rawwas, Marketing, has two articles appearing in "The
Influence of Leadership Styles, Conflict Management, and Individual
Characteristics on Motivation: A Cross-Cultural Study of Business Supervisors,"
will appear in the Journal of Asian Business and the co-authored
"Ethical Judgments and Intentions: A Multinational Study of Marketing
Professionals," will be found in Business Ethics: A European
Review.

conducted a seminar in Business Ethics at the Cedar Valley Chamber's
Grand Slam business expo. Wood was this year's featured speaker at the
Matt Parrott Integrity Awards Breakfast, speaking on "Integrity
and the Good Life: Bad News/Good News".
Frank Thompson, Finance, made a presentation
to the Black Hawk County League of Women Voters on "Social Security
Funding - Actuarial and Financial Issues Related to Privatization."
Allen Rappaport, Finance, and Thompson had a co-authored
paper, "The Securities Investor Protection Corporation: Problems
and Prognosis," accepted for presentation to the Missouri Valley
Economic Association.
Chris Schrage, Management, will present "Women's
enterprise - developing world-wide" at the World Conference of
the International Council for Small Business, in Belfast this June.

Kenneth Atkinson, Philosophy & Religion, spoke on the topic,
“Jihad in the Islamic Tradition,” at the “3rd Annual
Iowa Conference on Islam: Understanding Islam from Within,” March
7, at UNI. Atkinson, was one of three faculty members chosen to participate
in a lecture and public forum on the current Iraq situation on Feb.19
at UNI.
Nancy Justis, Athletics Media Relations,
recently was a
presenter at the University of Iowa's student chapter of the Public
Relations Society of America (PRSSA). The topic was public relations
and the sports information director. She also spoke at the Peet Junior
High students' Career Day.
Katherine van Wormer, Social Work, presented the keynote
address
for Women's History Month and Social Work Month,"The Backlash
against Women in Criminal Justice" at Bluffton College,Ohio March
6.
Robert Washut, School of Music, conducted the Pennsylvania
All-State Jazz Ensemble in Hershey, PA, April 9 -12, and was commissioned
to compose a piece for the concert. Washut served as adjudicator and
clinician for the Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival at the University of
Montana in Missoula April 25-26.
Richard Utz, English Language & Literature, recently
delivered an invited paper, “Philology’s Man in Palo Alto:
Ewald Flügel’s Chaucerian Mission,” at Georgia State
University’s English Department lecture series.
Kenneth Bleile, Communicative Disorders, recently returned
from delivering a series of lectures at the Ministry of Health in Singapore.
Bleile also served as the keynote speaker for the Idaho Speech and Hearing
Association annual conference in Pocatello, Idaho.
Harry Brod, Philosophy and the UNI Honors Program,
and Karen Mitchell, Communication Studies,
presented a workshop, “Picturing Positive Fathering: the Importance
of Fathers as Caregivers and Men as Peacemakers,” at the Child
Abuse Prevention Conference in Des Moines, April 28-29.
Lou Honary and Diane Neuzil, ABIL, attended the National
Petrochemical & Refiners Association’s (NPRA) annual meeting,
presenting “A Status Report on Bio-based Lubricants and Greases
in the United States.”

(PDA) this semester, has been awarded a one-month residency at the Virginia
Center for the Creative Arts, located near Sweet Briar.
Mary Bozik and Melissa Beall, Communication
Studies, will be participating in a panel at the Central States
Communication Association Convention in Omaha, Neb. Bozik and Beall
will be helping to update the communication badge of the Boy Scouts
of America.
Robert
Washut, School of Music, was inducted into the Iowa Jazz Hall
of Fame at a ceremony held in conjunction with the Iowa Jazz Championships
inDes Moines on April 9th.
Stephen
Taft, education and special programs at the GBPAC, recently
served as adjudicator for the Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota 2003
American Association of Community Theatre Festival in Sioux City. Taft
also presented two “audition” workshops at the festival.
He also served as an adjudicator at the Region 3 AACT Festival in Wis.
April 11-13.
Leslie
Wilson and Chris Schrage, College of Business Administration,
have won a $132,000 grant from the Department of Education's
Business and International Education Program for "Culture, Business,
and Education in China".
