Paul Turman, Communication Studies, has published "Coaches and Cohesion: The Impact of Coaching Techniques on Team Cohesion in the Small Group Sport Setting," in the Journal of Sport Behavior, volume 6, issue 1. He also published, "Children Are To Be Seen And Not Heard: Silencing Students’ Religious Voices in the University Classroom," in The Journal of Communication and Religion, volume 25, issue 2. Susan Rochette-Crawley, English Language & Literature, published a paper, “Science and Sentience: Imagination, Space, Time and Optics in Virginia Woolf’s Short Fiction,” in the April issue of the online journal, Philologie im Netz. Vince
Gotera, English Language & Literature, and editor of the
North American Review, recently published his poem, “Guard Duty,”
in Poets Against the War, a poetry anthology. Robert
A. Schneider, Social Work, has published "Basic Statistic
for Social Workers," in University Press of America, 2003. |

Harry Brod, Philosophy & Religion, will be a discussant at the "Voices from the Prairie: 4th Annual Iowa Writers' Celebration" at the University of Iowa in September. Julie Husband, English Language & Literature, delivered a paper at the "Public Life and the Work of Frederick Douglass" conference in Rochester, N. Y., in March. Husband's paper was titled, “ 'Free Labo' vs. Levelling: Frederick Douglass's Reading of the Post Civil War Urban Landscape." Roy Behrens, Art, has curated an exhibition of the work of American graphic designer Merle Armitage at the MacNider Art Museum in Mason City. Joyce Milambiling, English Language & Literature, presented a paper, "What Proficiency in English Can Buy You: The Case of Some Filipino Immigrants in the United States," at an international conference on the linguistic and sociocultural consequences of mobility in Roskilde, Denmark. Angeleita Floyd, School of Music, hosted and coordinated the 2003 Iowa Flute Festival on UNI's campus, in April. Floyd participated in the panel presentation "The Total Flutist; From flutist to musician," and directed the Northern Iowa Flute Choir. |
Paul Turman, Communication Studies, received the Outstanding New Teacher Award at the Central States Communication Association conference in Omaha, Neb. Recipients of this award must be teachers within their first seven years of teaching. Richard Utz, English Language & Literature, received the UNI Distinguished Scholar Award. Roy R. Behrens, Art, was nominated for a Communications
Design Award, part of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum's National
Design Awards Program. It is one of seven awards given nationally for
excellence, innovation and enhancement of the quality of life in the
areas of architecture, communications, environment, fashion and product
design. Harry Brod, Philosophy & Religion, has been named to the Board of Directors for Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit, state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. |
