Kenneth
Atkinson, Philosophy and Religion, was one of 24 experts Katherine
van Wormer, Social Work, has recently published a co-authored
book,"Addiction Treatment: A Strengths Perspective." (Wadsworth).
She also has
published "Sexual Traumatization by Priests: What Is the Effect
on Spirituality?" with co-author UNI graduate Lois Berns in "USA"
(the magazine),September,2002,pp.30-32. Joyce Milambiling, English Language & Literature, had an article, "Language Diversity, educational policy, and language rights in the Philippines" published in the Summer 2002 issue of the Linguistics Association of Korea Journal. Darryl Taylor, School of Music, in celebration of the Langston Hughes centennial, will release "Dreamer: A Portrait of Langston Hughes" in September on Naxos Records for international distribution. Taylor, a tenor; and William Warfield, narrator, perform songs by various composers, all on Hughes' poetry. Ken Bleile, Communicative Disorders, returned from his spring 2002 PDA in New Zealand, where he worked on the second edition of a textbook: "Manual of Articulation and Phonological Disorders." | Richard Utz, English Language and Literature, presented a paper "Michael Crichton's Medievalist Novel: Timeline" at the Anglistisches Literaturgespraech, Univ. of Regensburg, Germany, in June 2002. William Clohesy, Philosophy and Religion, presented his paper, "Citizens in Civil Society: Organizing for Power," at the Fifth Biennial International Meeting of the International Society for Third Sector Research, held at the University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa, July 7-10. Roy R. Behrens, Art, delivered the featured address on the life of Iowa-born book designer and Look Magazine art director, Merle Armitage at the annual gathering of the Association of American University Presses, in June in St. Petersburg, Fla. Clifford Highnam, Communicative Disorders, traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia, to participate in a Russian institute, co-sponsored by UNI and Herzen State Pedagogical University. He delivered a paper on the relationship between children's oral language development and reading skill, and gave five lectures on analyses of children's personal narratives. Dean Kruckeberg, Communication Studies, spoke on "The Role of Corporations in Shaping Social Values," at the Communicare 2002 seminar, Corporate Social Responsibility, Mid Sweden University in May, in Sundsvall, Sweden. He presented "It Is Now a Very Good Day to Get Out Anything We Want to Bury, or Ethical Obligations of Public Relations in an Era of Globalization," at a program for faculty and doctoral students of Orebro University May 14, in Orebro, Sweden and at the Swedish Public Relations Association May 13, in Stockholm. Paula Gilroy and Jennifer Murra, UNI Counseling Center, in collaboration with Lynne Carroll, University of North Florida presented a paper, "Counseling Psychologists' Personal Experiences with Depression and Treatment" at the American Psychological Association's annual conference in Chicago. |

Amy S. RohrBerg, Theatre, served as artistic director and designed costumes for a number of shows in the season; Mark A. Parrott, Theatre, designed scenery for two productions; and Jascenna Haislet-Carlson, Theatre, was stage manager for three productions, all for Theatre L'Homme Dieu in Alexandria, Minn., this summer. Roy R. Behrens, Art, was given an Award of Excellence for the design of his book, "False Colors: Art, Design and Modern Camouflage" at the 44th Annual Art Directors Association of Iowa Design Exhibition in Des Moines. Philip Fass, Art, received first prize (Best of Category) for two of his departmental posters, one of which was also awarded the Judge's Choice Award (Best of Show). Carlin Hageman, Communicative Disorders, was selected as National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association chapter adviser of the year |
