Leslie S. Jones, Biology, had the article "Do We Need to Dismiss Creationism to Teach Evolution?" published in "SCIOS - JOURNAL OF THE SCIENCE TEACHERS¹ ASSOCIATION OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA," Vol. 37, No. 2, pp. 23-27, Winte, 2001. Bonnie H.Litwiller and David R. Duncan, Mathematics, "Visualizing Number Patterns: Connecting Geometry and Arithmetic," FACTORIAL, Vol. 32, No. 4, Summer 2001, pp. 10-12. Betty DeBerg, Philosophy and Religion, co-authored a book, "Religion on Campus," published by the University of North Carolina Press due out in Sept. 2001. Jason Follett, Teaching-MPLS, had a book review of editor Malcolm Muir, Jr.'s "The Human Tradition in the World War II Era" published in the August 2001 edition of "The Society of History Education's The History Teacher." Mohammed Y. Rawwas' manuscript "Culture, Personality and Morality: A Typology of International Consumers' Ethical Beliefs" has been published in the "International Marketing Review" (2001), Vol. 18, No. 2, pp188-209. Julie Thompson, Wellness and Recreation Services, co-authored an article, "Parental Notification" in "Prevention Updates," a publication of the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention. |

William Clohesy, Philosophy and Religion, presented a paper, "Altruism and Power," at the annual meeting of the North American Society for Social Philosophy, July 28. Marilyn Drury and TyAnn Morehead, ITS Educational Technology, presented at the national syllabus conference July 24, 2001. The session, "Hey, I Thought Gen. Ed. Was Supposed to be Boring!" focused on the efforts of the May Institute at UNI. Dean Kruckeberg, Communication Studies, presented his paper "PR in Emerging Democracies: A Global Perspective" at the national convention of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Aug. 5, 2001, in Washington, D.C. He also was a panelist in the program, "The 'Phoenix' of Public Relations Ethics: How Can a function Originating from an Unethical Base of Puffery Now Claim to Be the Ethical Conscience of the Organization?" He was also a discussant of "Top Faculty and Student Collaboration Research Papers." Kathy Gulick, University Health Services, gave two presentations at the National Wellness Conference during the week of July15, 2001: "Campus Wellness: Key Factors and Practical Steps to Program Development" and "On Your Own in Campus Wellness: A Practical and Realistic Approach to Program Development." Joan Thompson and Deedra Billings, Wellness and Recreation Services, presented program demonstrations at the National Wellness Conference, July 18, 2001. Topics were theUNI Social Norms Campaign and the UNI Model for campus Health Services. |

Betty DeBerg, Philiosophy and Religion, was named to the national advisory panel for the Lilly Endowment's major initiative, "The Theological Exploration of Vocation." Jason Follett, Teaching-MPLS, was appointed by Gov. Thomas J. Vilsack and Lt. Gov. Sally J. Pederson to the Commission of Latino Affairs. Follett's term will begin immediately and end on June 30, 2003. Dean Kruckeberg, Communication Studies, was appointed as College of Fellows ethics advisor to the Midwest District by the Public Relations Society of America Board of Ethics and Professional Standards. |
