.....Bob Washnut, professor with the School of Music, had a CD released on the Sea Breeze label on Oct. 20. The Bob Washnut Trio is the name of the band and the CD is entitled Songbook. Two former students, Mark Urness and Kevin Hart, play bass and drums, respectively.
.....Roberta Davilla had a book chapter entitled, White children's talk about race and culture: Family communication and intercultural socialization, in Communication, Race, and Family edited by Thomas J. Socha and Rhunette C. Diggs and published by Lawrence Erlbaum Publishers (a 1999 publication date). The chapter is based on Davilla's research and interviews with second, fourth, and sixth graders in two Cedar Falls schools. She also had published an instructor's annotated textbook for Julia T. Wood's Communication in Our Lives (2nd ed.). This 1999 publication is published by Wadsworth Publishers.
.....Megan Lipke, assistant professor with the Department of Art, was featured in the July 1999 issue of Art in America. Her oil on canvas piece, Ever After, was pictured in the article and was part of her first solo show in New York.
.....The first edition of Major Themes in Economics has recently been published. The articles in were written by four Economics majors, with assistance from Dr. Ken McCormick. The students were from the Economics Department's course, 920:181 Directed Research in Economics. The course is the cornerstone of the Outcomes Assessment Program and is required of all economics majors.

A. R. Badran and Kruckeberg are co-authors of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Muhammad I. Ayish and Kruckeberg are co-authors of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
.....Kathleen Kerr, Professor in HPELS, presented workshops in international dance at Iowa State University during the third annual Traditional Music and Dance festival, Sept. 17-19, 1999.
.....Kay Weller, coordinator of the Geographic Alliance of Iowa along with Mike Emch and Tom Fogarty of the Department of Geography were part of a curriculum development team at the University of Jos and the University of Ibadan in Nigeria this summer. The project was funded by a Fullbright-Hays Grant and the National Geographic Society. Other team members included Rex Honey and Rebecca Roberts from the University of Iowa and secondary teachers from Iowa. Sixteen educators were involved in the project.
.....Jeffery Byrd, Art, presented a performance piece at the Indianapolis Installation Festival on Sept. 17, and was included in the 17th Annual Compeitition Exhibition at the Alexandria Art Museum from Sept. 19 to Oct. 30 in Alexandria, LA. The competition was juried by Beth Handler, curator with the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
.....Steve Corbin, Marketing, presented a paper titled Six Classroom Projects to Assess Students'Skill in Analysis and Critical Thinking and Students' Skill in Synthesis and Creative Thinking at the Marketing Management Association Fall 1999 Educators' Conference, in St. Louis, Sept. 9-10.
.....Roberta Davilla, along with an undergraduate student and a graduate student from the Communication Studies Department, presented a panel at the Iowa Communication Association conference on Sept. 11. The topic was service learning and experiential learning components in a small group communication class Davilla taught last Spring.
.....Paula Gilroy and Jennifer Murra of the UNI Counseling Center in collaboration with Lynne Carroll of UNF presented a 90-minute workshop entitled Double Jeopardy: Women Psychotherapists at risk for Depression at the American Counseling Association's 1999 World Conference in San Diego.

.....William Clohesy, Associate Professor of Philosophy, conducted an ethics workshop, Fundraisers in Civil Society, for the Eastern Iowa National Society of Fund Raising Executives on Sept. 15.
.....Chris Ehrick and Jonathan C. Schwabe took part in the Mid-America Composers Festival, a celebration of new American concert music, in Grinnell, Iowa from Oct. 1-3. Sixty composers from 17 states performed their music, presentations and community events.
.....Jeffery Byrd, associate professor, Art, displayed his work in a three-person show at the Ukranian Institute of Modern Art in Chicago, and also presented a performance at the Indianapolis Installation Festival.
.....John Grinstead, assistant professor, Department of Modern Languages, gave a lecture in Japan at Meiji Gakuin University on Oct. 6. He spoke on Child Spanish and the Root Infinitive Question: Morphological and Syntactic Development in Negation in Child Spanish, Catalan and Japanese.
.....Dean Kruckeberg, professor of Public Relations, was guest speaker (via teleconference) on Sept. 30 in the Graduate Seminar in Public Relations Management at University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette.

.....Lou Honary was one of the USDA's invited guests at President Clinton's signing of the Executive Order, Biobased Products and Bioenergy. ABIL's soy-based hydraulic fluid was one of the products shown to the President as an example of biobased products.
.....Dean Kruckeberg, professor of Public Relations, has been appointed co-chair of the Committee on Alliances of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication. Kruckeberg also has been appointed to a three-year term on the Membership Committee of AEJMC.
.....Kenneth J. De Nault finished the 1999 S.C.C.A. National Season tied for sixth place in the Central Division points standings. This finish resulted in again being invited to race for the National Championship at the SCCA Valvoline Runoffs on Oct. 9, in which De Nault finished 13th. De Nault also was mentioned in the September issue of Sports Car as one to watch in the Runoffs.
