Rawwas authored "A Cross-Cultural Investigation of the Ethical Values of Consumers: The Potential Effect of War and Civil Disruption" in the Journal of Business Ethics; and "Do Consumers' Ethical Beliefs Vary With Age? A Substantiation of Kohlberg's Typology in Marketing" in the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice.

.....Charline Barnes, curriculum & instruction-co-presented a workshop, "A Story, A Picture: Once Upon a Multicultural Tale," July 24 at the International Reading Association World Congress in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

.....Roy Behrens, art-has had artworks accepted in two recent juried exhibitions: Art Show 10, an annual competitive exhibition at the Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls; and the 33rd Annual Area Show at the Charles H. MacNider Museum in Mason City.

.....Jeffery Byrd, art-presented a performance art piece at the Works Gallery in San Jose, Calif.

.....Roger Kueter and Wendell McConnaha, teaching, and William Callahan and Linda Quinn, COE-were invited to participate in the Annual Rectors' Conference of the Black Sea University Network July 8-12 in Constanta, Romania. Kueter presented a paper on teacher education; McConnaha presented a paper on laboratory schools; Callahan's presentation was on university partnerships; and Quinn's presentation was on professional development.

.....Paula Gilroy and Jennifer Murra, counseling center-presented the poster session "Does Depression Affect Clinical Practice? A Survey of Women Psychotherapists" in August at the American Psychological Association's Annual Convention in San Francisco. Gilroy also presented "Coming Out: The Language of Self-Disclosure."

.....Kirk Henderson, roadside office-presented information on UNI's roadside native planting program March 31 at a national conference on managing roadsides naturally hosted by the National Wildflower Research Center in Austin, Texas. Henderson was also invited to be a panelist for the session, "The ABC's of Roadside Wildflower Plantings."

.....Robert Ward, English (emeritus)-will present "James Hearst: Iowa's Premier Poet" Sept. 26 to the Midwest Federation of Chaparral Poets in Cedar Rapids.

.....Dean Kruckeberg, public relations-presented his co-authored paper, "Numerical Significance: Jacob Cohen, Critical Statistics and Public Relations," July 20-24 at the International Communication Association Conference in Jerusalem, Israel. Kruckeberg was a respondent for the Top 3 Papers session and for the Chair's session. Kruckeberg was also the vice chair and program chair of the public relations division of the conference. Aug. 12-24, at the invitation of the U.S. Information Service-Sofia, Kruckeberg taught representatives of the Bulgarian news media, nongovernmental organizations and governmental units about the U.S Freedom of Information Act. He also taught media relations to press secretaries of the Bulgarian Government Ministries and other governmental units. Kruckeberg was a panelist on "Building a Research Agenda Based on the Relationship Paradigm" Aug. 5 at the national convention in Baltimore of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Kruckeberg was a speaker at the "Teaching the Teachers" workshop to prepare communications faculty in the Baltic States and Russia to teach public relations. It included a presentation July 3 at the Summer School in Russian Media in St. Petersburg, Russia and at a workshop July 7 in Riga, Latvia.

.....Paul Siddens, communication studies-was a guest speaker in early August on the impact of modern technology on interpersonal communication at a three-day seminar on adult education and media for Iowa community college teachers.

 

Awards/honors/service

.....Germana Nijim, international services-is one of the 14 participants selected by the International Educators Association (NAFSA) to attend a seminar in Heidelberg, Germany. The seminar sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Research, will focus on the German Educational System, German-American academic equivalencies, and student exchange between Germany and the United States.

.....Linda Sharp, teaching-has been invited to sit on the panel for Buena Vista University's Career Day Alumni Forum Oct. 23 at the Storm Lake campus.

.....Roy Behrens, art-has been appointed to the advisory board of Gestalt Theory, a multidisciplinary journal published in Germany.

.....James Becker, PLS-has been awarded a Fulbright Memorial Teacher Fund Program award for three weeks of travel and study in Japan. Becker will take part in a program that focuses on orienting American teachers to Japan.

.....Susan Koch, academic affairs-has been awarded the Jane Sanford Memorial Award by the Iowa Poetry Association. Koch's poem, "When I Was Six," will be published in September in the IPA's 1998 collection, Lyrical Iowa.

.....Gretta Berghammer, theatre-was selected to participate in the National Arts Assessment Training sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers and supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. Participants analyzed and developed various ways of assessing elementary and secondary students on skills and knowledge in dance, music, theatre and visual arts.
