.....Roy Behrens, art--has recently published the following articles: "The Artistic and Scientific Collaboration of Blanche Ames and Adelbert Ames II" in Leonardo: Journal of the International Society of Arts, Sciences and Technology; "Cook, His Wife, Two Thieves, and the Pope" and "The Good, the Bad, and the Evergood" in Tractor: Iowa Arts and Culture; and "Haus of Style" in Print Magazine.
.....Chandra Das, management--co-authored "Further Generalization of The Square-Root Law for Safety Stock," presented at the Northeast Decision Sciences Institute Meeting in Boston in March and selected as that meeting's best paper (The Mary Beth Pearson Gnagey Award). An expanded version of the paper has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Business Logistics.

.....Mir Zaman, finance--has had two papers published in the Journal of Finance. "Trading Costs and Exchange Listing: The Case of Firms that Voluntarily Move from the American Stock Exchange to Nasdaq" appeared in December and "Overreaction and Insider Trading: Evidence From Growth and Value Portfolios" appeared in April.

Presentations/lectures/exhibitions
.....Jeffery Byrd, art--will be a featured artist in The Cleveland Performance Art Festival during May. Byrd's piece will be one of 32 works selected from 339 proposals by artists in 14 countries. He will also be featured in a two artist exhibition at 4 Star Gallery in Indianapolis and will present a performance there as well.
.....Yury Lerner, industrial technology--presented "Inoculants Selection for Counter-Gravity Casting of Thin Wall Ductile Iron" April 6-8 at the International Inoculation Conference, American Foundrymen's Society, Rosemont, Illinois.
.....Tim Lindquist, accounting--presented a co-authored paper, "National Culture and the Implementation of High Stretch Performance Targets: An Exploratory Study," at the International Accounting Section 1998 Midyear Meetings in April in Chicago.
.....Dale Cyphert, management--attended the annual Midwest/Eastern conference of the Association for Business Communication in April, where she presented "The Social Author: Collaborative Writing as an Oral Communication Process."
.....Paul Chao, marketing, taught at the University of Aalborg, Denmark March 6-18 in the Masters Degree Program in International Business Economics.
.....Dean Kruckeberg, public relations--was a guest speaker and panelist in the program, "The Crisis in Media Credibility," at the national convention for the Society of Collegiate Journalists April 3-4 in Waverly. He was also a guest speaker, discussing "Public Relations Knowledge Test: The Realities of Public Relations" at the same convention. Kruckeberg's paper, "Challenges for Public Relations Education in the New Millenium" was presented at the annual convention of the Central States Communication Association April 3 in Chicago.
.....Grace Deniston, art--was a presenter at the recent National Art Education Convention in Chicago. At a symposium honoring the work of Marilyn Zurmuehlen, Deniston presented "The Meaning of Storytelling as Pedagogy." She also presented "The Legacy of Paulo Freire (1921-1997), In Memoriam"; "The Aesthetics of Commerce"; and also served on the panel, "Dialogue with the Authors and Artists of the Journal of Social Theory in Art Education."
.....Charline Barnes, Penny Beed, Mingshui Cai, Dale Johnson, David Landis, Deborah Tidwell and Rick Traw, curriculum & instruction--will present an all-day institute called, "A Work-Study Reading Tutoring Program: One University's Response to the America Reads Challenge" at International Reading Association Annual Conference, May 3-8 in Orlando, Florida. The institute will be presented with the assistance of seven undergraduate and two graduate students.
Awards/honors/service
.....Kurt Meredith, Matt Kollasch and Jeannie Steele, education have successfully written a $110,000 grant to the United States Information Agency for a project that focuses on the free-flow of information for Slovak libraries. Project objectives include the introduction of the practical use of new technologies and new library services for citizens. Herb Safford, director of the Rod Library and Matt Kollasch will serve as the content coordinators for the project.
.....The Northern University High School Russian language students captured their fifth straight state championship at the Iowa Olympiada of Spoken Russian, April 24, at the Schindler Education Center. The students are taught by Jim Sweigert, PLS. Sweigert and eleven NUHS students took part March 15 to April 8 in their fourth ACTR High School Academic Partnership Exchange with Tyumen' School #34 in Tyumen', Russia. They were accompanied by Terri McDonald, PLS, who led seminars on the use of the Iowa Communications System and the Internet for Russian educators, administrators and local politicians. NU High is the only school in Iowa , and one of only 65 high schools nationwide taking part in this exchange.
