Awards/honors/service

.....Paul Chao and Pola Gupta, marketing-completed the Access Management Project sponsored by the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT). A grant of $57,783 was received from the IDOT for completing this project. The project involved conducting surveys among motorists, businesses and various agencies in five Iowa communities (Ames, Ankeny, Clive, Fairfield and Spencer) to determine their attitudes toward access management programs. Paul Chao served as the principal investigator and Pola Gupta as the investigating researcher.

.....The following Office of Public Relations staff members received awards at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Mid-America District 6 conference Jan. 11-13 in Des Moines. Gerald Anglum, Barbara Erickson, Don Honnold, Paul Kaufmann, Beth LaVelle, Jeff Martin, Janeen Stewart and Lyle VandenHull received a Gold Award in the Institutional Relations category for a public relations promotional package; Don Honnold, Gerald Anglum, Gwenne Culpepper, Beth LaVelle, Audrey Schroeder and Jeff Martin received a Silver Award in the Publications: Student Recruitment Series category for the 1997/98 Recruitment Series; Gwenne Culpepper received a Bronze Award in the Publications on a Budget: In-House category for the UNI Calendar of Events; Janeen Stewart, Beth LaVelle and Audrey Schroeder received a Bronze Award in the Institutional Relations category for the State Fair Exhibit; and Janeen Stewart and Dennis Hendrickson, admissions, received a Bronze Award in the Periodicals: Newsletter category for the Outlook Newsletter.
