.....Jim Becker , teaching-served as a Spanish interpreter on a medical group mission to Ecuador for two weeks in June. He worked with doctors to diagnose health problems and to prescribe medicines for residents in the city of Quevedo. Becker was also selected as one of 15 university instructors in the country to participate in a computer seminar at the University of Hawaii for two weeks in July, writing HTML pages for the World Wide Web using MicroSoft Front Page. Becker also produced a self-instructional program for French III high school students on Provence.
.....Robert Byrnes, music-performed carillon recitals Aug. 9-13 at the Netherlands Carillon in Arlington, Va.; at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J.; at St. Thomas' Church, Whitemarsh in Ft. Washington, Pa.; and at the Washington Memorial National Carillon in Valley Forge, Pa. On Aug. 17, Byrnes performed informally at the Duke University carillon in Durham, N.C.

Kerr also presented master classes on dances of the Balkans, Hungary and Sweden, and a lecture on folklore dances of Hungary and Bulgaria Sept. 12-14 at the Central Iowa Traditional Dance and Music Festival in Ames.

.....Michael White, industrial technology-was the keynote luncheon speaker Sept. 24 for the John Deere Waterloo Training Conference in Waverly. His topic was "Wizards and Warriors: Cooperating for the Kingdom." White was a 1/2 day workshop presenter Sept. 22 for John Deere Dubuque Works at Clark College. His topic was "How to Guide Employees Through Change." White presented two half-day workshops in the Supervisor/CIPP Maintenance Team Certificate Program for John Deere Waterloo Works, a program being delivered by the Management & Professional Development Center, College of Business Administration. White's workshop topics were: "Improving Productivity by Developing People" and "Managing Change." White also presented a refereed paper Oct. 7-10 at the National Association of Industrial Technology convention in Atlanta, Georgia. White's paper reported on his research into the essential skills and behaviors for supervisors and managers as they approach the 21st century.

.....Dean Kruckeberg, public relations-was a speaker at a round table discussion on "Public Relations Curriculum Development" Sept. 27 at the annual conference of the Iowa Communication Association in the Amana Colonies. Kruckeberg has had primary responsibilities organizing the Commission on Public Relations Education that will examine and make recommendations for public relations curricula in the United States.
.....Rosa Maria de Findlay, spanish-received an Individual Award by The Friends of Iowa Civil Rights for recognition of her contributions. She will be honored at a banquet in Des Moines on Oct. 23.
.....UNI has been honored by the Government Finance Officers Association for the fifth consecutive year for the quality its comprehensive annual financial report. UNI was one of six universities in the nation to receive the award. UNI's recipients of the Financial Reporting Achievement award include Gary Shontz, controller and university secretary responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR. Other individuals working toward the award were Bruce Rieks, assistant controller and chief accountant; Bryan Segerstrom, senior accountant; and Carla Maletta, staff accountant.
