.....Jeffrey Byrd, art-presented a solo exhibition of photographic work and a performance art piece at Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. He was also a participant in the New Performance Festival at CSPS in Cedar Rapids; and presented a lecture and taught a workshop at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

.....Lois Lindell, Center for Economic Education-conducted workshops on "Integrating Economics into the Social Studies Classroom: A Workshop for 7-12 Teachers"; "Economics is Elementary for K-4 Teachers"; and "Speaking About Economics: Economics in Middle School Grades" at the Iowa Council for the Social Studies Annual Conference Oct. 20-21 in Waterloo.

.....Sue Grosboll, museum-presented a paper on experiential learning opportunities in museums for university and college students Oct. 28 at the annual meeting of the Iowa Museum Association.

.....Dean Kruckeberg, public relations-was interviewed Oct. 15 via teleconference about international public relations ethics by a graduate student and a professor from Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Western Australia.

.....Jürgen Koppensteiner, modern languages-conducted the workshop on "Austria in the Classroom" Sept. 26-27 at the fall meeting of the Kansas Association of Teachers of German in Wichita and at the Metropolitan Houston Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German Oct. 17-18 in Houston. Koppensteiner also presented "The New German Orthography: A Lesson for Novices" at the conference of the Iowa Foreign Language Association Oct. 3 in Des Moines. He presented the keynote lecture on "The Austrian writer Karl Heinrich Waggerl and the Conflicting Traditions of Regional Literature in Austria" and the lecture "The Current Situation of the German Language in Austria" at the Conference for English and German Studies at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro Oct. 8 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On Oct.7, Koppensteiner presented the lecture "Tendencies and Trends in Contemporary Austrian Literature" at the Congress for English and German Studies at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro in Rio de Janeiro.

.....Annette Iverson, educational psychology and foudnations, Mary Guenther and Kim Miller, PLS-presented "The Usefulness of Various Assessments of Reading Progress in Literature-Based Reading Programs" Oct. 16 at the Iowa School Psychologists Association.

.....Kevin O' Kane, computer science-presented "A Web-Based Mumps Virtual Machine" at the American Medical Informatics Association Fall Symposium Oct. 27 in Nashville.

.....Catherine Farris, anthropology-will present the paper, "Girls and Boys Constructing Assertive Subjectivities Through Language Use in a Chinese Preschool in Taiwan" as part of the panel, "The Embodiment of Feminine Voices" at the annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association Nov. 19-23 in Washington, D.C.

.....William Lew, art-received the Educational Administrator of the Year award and Elverda "Butch" Bender, art, received the Educational Office Professional of the Year award from the Iowa Association of Educational Office Professionals Oct. 12 in Des Moines.

.....Sam Barr, financial aid-is the current President for the Iowa Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (IASFAA).

.....Mohammed Fahmy, industrial technology-was elected to a position on the NAIT Board of Accreditation from Region Two, representing the University Division of the National Association of Industrial Technology.

.....Roy Behrens, art-has been appointed to a 3-year term as a Digital Review Editor of Leonardo: Journal of the International Society of Arts, Science and Technology (MIT Press).
