.....Margaret "Peg" Ishler, curriculum and instruction-presided over the 77th National Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) in Washington, D.C., Feb. 16-19. Thomas J. Switzer, dean of the College of Education welcomed the delegates to the conference. Mary Selke, teaching, served on the National Planning Committee and was instrumental in initiating a graduate research symposium as part of the ATE program. .....Jeremy Beck, music-his Sonata for violin and piano (1996) received its American premier at a National Association of Composers/USA concert in New York City. His Gemini for flute, cello and piano (1996) was performed at the Society of Composers National Conference at Florida International University.

.....Robert Washut, music-served as conductor of the Missouri All-State Jazz Ensemble and presented a jazz improvisation clinic at the Missouri Music Educators Association conference at the Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Mo., Jan. 9-Feb. 1. Washut also appeared as a guest artist/clinician with the Northwestern College Jazz Ensemble in St. Paul, Minn., Feb. 20. On Jan. 25, he performed a concert at the NIACC Auditorium in Mason City as part of the inaugural NIACC Jazz Festival.
.....Raymond Tymas-Jones, music-performed and lectured Feb. 7-8 as a guest artist for "A Celebration of African-American Spirituals," a gala recital of faculty and guest artists for the School of Music at Penn State University College of Arts and Architecture. His lecture and recital was on "The Golden Era of the Solo Spiritual: The Works of H.T. Burleigh and Hall Johnson."
.....Linda Walsh, psychology-was an invited speaker at the Midwest Institute for Teachers of Psychology Feb. 28-March 1 in Glen Ellyn, Ill. She presented "Use of World Wide Web Resources and Computer Conferencing in the Psychology Classroom," as well as being one of five panel members presenting "Compelling Demonstrations for the Introductory Psychology Course."
.....Debra Gordon, music-presented her dissertation research, "An Investigation and Analysis of Stress Factors Experienced by K-12 Music Teachers," at the ATE conference in Washington, D.C., in early February. Her research was one of 18 papers accepted internationally for presentation at the recent General Music Symposium at the University of Arizona.
......Richard Monson, facilities planning-authored and presented a paper titled "Steam Tunnel Replacement at the University of Northern Iowa" at the International Energy Association Conference Feb. 19-21 at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.
.....Jürgen Koppensteiner, modern languages-presented the paper "The Image of America in Contemporary Austrian Literature" at the March 1 spring meeting of the Iowa Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. Koppensteiner presented a three-day workshop, "Austrian Literature and Culture," and two lectures, "The Role of Literature in the Teaching of German as a Foreign Language" and "The Debate about German as a 'Pluricentric Language' in Austria," Feb. 7-12, at the Austrian Cultural Institute in Tehran, Iran.
