Wahab also has successfully established a complete horizontal loom in UNI's Textiles & Apparel lab for the weaving of the narrow-strip handwoven cloth of the Yoruba of Southwest Nigeria. Students have started to weave on the loom.

.....Debra Gordon, music education-recently directed the Iowa Choral Directors Association's Opus Concert in Ames; 180 fifth- and sixth-grade students were selected by audition from nearly 1,100 candidates. The Opus Concert was held in conjunction with the All-State Music Festival and the Iowa Music Educators Conference, at which Gordon also was a clinician.

Cheryl Timion, PLS-presented, "Starting at Square One: Squaring off Planning an Integrated Language Arts and Social Studies Curriculum."
.....Dave Zarifis, public safety-facilitated a meeting Dec. 4-6 with the Iowa Telecommunications Board. The purpose was to develop a state-wide training program for telecommunicators, Which would be used in a 40-hour training program. Dec. 9-13, Zarifis participated in the Stalking Research Project, hosted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety in Des Moines. This was the first of a series of meetings to develop additional information relative to this crime and the laws that address it.
.....Steve Young and Dave Kelly, public safety-received training from the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) certifying them to fingerprint international students for various types of INS background checks. They also are qualified to take fingerprints when international students apply for different types of immigration visas.

McCullagh, social work-was recently appointed by the Iowa Supreme Court to a Supreme Court Task Force that will review "Judicial Oversight of the Permanency Process in Child in Need of Assistance Cases." McCullough has also received a subcontract for $66,238 from the University of Iowa to sponsor training programs for the Iowa Child Protective Training Academy in juvenile and criminal law, social work supervision, substance abuse/domestic violence, and personal maintenance/stress management for child abuse investigators and supervisors.
.....Bob Lee, PLS-Was inducted Dec. 14 into the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Hall of Fame. During his career at Garnavillo High School and N.U. High Lee's teams have earned five state cross-country titles and five state track titles.
.....Allan Stamberg, cooperative education-has been selected president of the Iowa Association of Cooperative Education, a professional organization of university co-op administrators and business/industry personnel administrators. Stamberg will also serve as State of Iowa Director for the Midwest Cooperative Education Association.
.....Dean Kruckeberg, public relations-has been elected vice chair of the Public Relations Interest Group of the International Communication Association. He will take office at the close of the ICA annual conference in May.
.....Duane McDonald, conferences and visitor services-has been elected president-elect of the Association of Conference and Events Directors International (ACED-I). As president-elect, McDonald will chair the Membership Services Committee at the March ACED-I annual meeting in Seattle, Wash. McDonald will assume the role of president of ACED-I at the association's annual meeting in March 1998, in Norfolk, Va.
