.....Robert Washut, music-a paper, "An Outline for a One-Semester Graduate Course in Instrumental Jazz Pedagogy" at the International Association of jazz Educators conference held in Atlanta, Ga. Graduate student Phil Carver also presented a paper at the conference entitled "The Metamorphosis of a Jazz Standard."

Awards/honors/service

.....Ed Amend, philosophy & religion- appointed to the Advisory Board of the Institute for Public Leadership, a cooperative effort of the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of the Iowa state government. The organization sponsors workshops and seminars for emerging leaders in all three branches of the government.

.....Gerald Anglum, Office of Public Relations-served as program co-chair for the annual Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Mid-America District Conference held in Denver, Colo., January 14-17. Susan Chilcott, Office of Public Relations, chaired the professional recognition awards program. Mid-America District membership includes colleges, universities and independent schools from an 8-state region.

.....Dave Bradney, Industrial Technology Metal Casting Center-elected to Senior Member status in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

..... Steve Corbin, marketing - selected to chair a special session workshop at the Midwest Marketing Association Conference, March 13-15, Chicago; special session theme is: "Rigor: What It Is and Its Place in Marketing Courses."

.....James G. McCullagh, social work-is the recipient of two subcontracts totaling $145,000 for fiscal year 1995-96 (administered by the Center for Social and Behavioral Research), to coordinate legal training for the Iowa Child Protective Training Academy and Child Protective Social Workers for the Department of Human Services.

.....Gerri Perreault, Leadership Studies-has been invited to serve as book review editor for the new journal, Leadership Inquiry. She encourages faculty to submit book reviews to her.

.....Carol Poster and Richard Utz, English-recently contracted for publication of a new journal in late medieval studies with Northwestern University Press. Disputatio: An International Transdisciplinary Journal of the Late Middle Ages investigates all aspects of late medieval culture. The journal has an advisory board of famous scholars from twelve countries, and it is an exciting internship opportunity for UNI students with interests in editing and publishing or those who would like to go on to graduate programs in Medieval and Renaissance Culture and Literature.

.....Daya Shankar, communication studies-received a grant from the Delhi Women's Welfare Association, India, to conduct the research, "Communicating Effective Support to Breast Cancer Patients." She will travel to India during the spring of 1996 to begin interviews with Indian breast cancer patients.
