Arts in April Festival at UNI

Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center
Free, fun and family-friendly!

Our festival kicks off a full month of exciting events at the University of Northern Iowa. Performances range from a rousing tuba ensemble to action-packed stage combat scenes, with art, dance and music workshops for kids throughout the afternoon. Bring your friends and family for an enjoyable afternoon on campus. Children 10 and under
should be accompanied by an adult.

  • UNI Catering specialties and beverages will be for sale. Items such as chocolate caramel pretzels, fruits and relishes with dips, spiced nuts, cranberry snack mix and, of course, those famous UNI cookies will be available.
  • Enjoy a guided tour of UNI featuring campus art and new facilities.
  • International calligraphy at the University Museums’ display.
  • Des Moines Arts Festival exhibition features the artwork of some of UNI’s finest students.

Special festival preview: Viola master class with renowned violist Emanuel Vardi from 10 a.m. to noon in Jebe Hall. The master class will feature student performers from the UNI viola studio.

Emanuel Vardi is acclaimed as a performer, pedagogue, composer, conductor and champion of his instrument. He has performed at some of the world’s most beloved concert venues, including Carnegie Hall, and performed a solo recital at the White House for Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Following an injury in 1993, Vardi retired from the concert stage. Now an international award-winning artist, Vardi specializes in paintings of musicians in an abstract, expressionist style.
