Youth Enrichment Program

Our goal is to provide constructive activities for youth in the CURA, in the areas of music and home repair skills, in order to enhance their educational achievement; and to engage parents constructively in the education of their children. Waterloo neighborhoods specifically targeted for these activities include MAPLES, We Care, and Unity.

Through the following programs, we plan to develop key life skills such as focus, discipline, and the commitment required for long-term skill development which are important to the successful development of children.

Adult Home Maintenance

The goal of this program is to enhance resident self-sufficiency and improve the condition of housing in the CURA by teaching home repair skills and making low/moderate income households more informed consumers.

Strengthening Neighborhoods

To build the organizational capacity of neighborhood associations in the CURA, through training in organizational and planning skills, so that they can foster strong communal ties within their neighborhoods and act as effective voices for neighborhood concerns to the larger community.

Fair Housing Training

To promote housing opportunity and self-sufficiency for residents and stability for neighborhoods by increasing access to home ownership by low to moderate income households and by educating them concerning their rights under fair housing laws.

Health Improvement

To eliminate a major source of chronic health problems among children in the CURA, by reducing their exposure to lead-based paint.
